Message

The South African chapter of the World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure (PIANC SA) is pleased to announce that we will be hosting the 35th PIANC World Congress on 29 April – 03 May 2024, in the beautiful city of Cape Town, South Africa.

The congress will include presentation of technical papers in research and development within the waterborne transportation environment; Technical Tours for delegates involving visits to ports and a variety of coastal sites, and Social Tours for delegates to visit tourist attractions in Cape Town.

The theme of the Conference is: “Future Ready Waterborne Transport – Unlocking Africa”. The theme aims to address the works necessary in creating a sustainable maritime sector.

The congress will also offer delegates an opportunity to experience Cape Town, the “Mother City”, a city that is perched between two oceans and the mountain, with a national park and Natural Wonder of the World as its heart. It is the oldest city in South Africa and has a cultural heritage spanning more than 300 years.

On behalf of the organising committee, we extend a warm invitation to you and your associates to participate in this forthcoming 35th PIANC World Congress 2024.

We look forward to welcoming you to Cape Town in April 2024.

Yours Sincerely

Basil Ngcobo

ABOUT SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa is an extremely diverse country, both in its interesting mix of people and languages and in the nature of the land. It is both developed and a developing country, has rich natural resources, employs advanced technologies and supports complex industrial structures. South Africa covers an area nearly five times the size of the United Kingdom.

ABOUT CAPE TOWN

With its majestic Table Mountain backdrop, Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It has a warm Mediterranean climate, with April/May temperatures ranging from a minimum of 14C (57F) to a maximum of 26C (78F). Cape Town is a charming and convenient setting for a congress.

ACCOMMODATION

Cape Town offers a wide range of accommodation from luxury hotels of the highest international standard through to quality guest houses.

The congress will offer accommodation ranging from budget to 5-star hotels. Most hotels will be located within walking distance from the conference venue. Online hotel bookings can be made through the online form when Registration Opens.

AIR TRAVEL & CONNECTIVITY

Delegates to Cape Town mostly arrive and depart by air. Cape Town International Airport is located only 20 minutes from the city Centre. Most airlines have regular direct flights to this global city. South African Airlines (SAA) is one of the world’s most experienced airlines with excellent safety records. As Star Alliance member, SAA is flying to six continents and one of the leading carriers in Africa. Once on the ground, getting around is relatively simple and convenient with taxis and e-hailing services being the preferred mode of transport for international travellers.
